More Than Just A Youth Service.

6:00 p.m.

Bible class.

This time, by a teacher 3 decades (or so) younger than the usual teacher:

Ahaha. That's her. Joyce Lim.

Bible class was awesome enough, with Joyce rattling on (it's a more upbeat version of 'rumbling on') on Luke 5:36-39.

Basically the point was: Get rid of old habits. Get new, better ones.

And: God wants to renew us, like how old wineskins were soaked in water then coated with olive oil to renew them.
(I remember! Proof of a good Bible class. Or an intelligent person. Haha.)

7:30 p.m.

Service starts.

Sharon
led worship. The fireBRANDS sang Heart of Worship, Here I Am To Worship and Worship You Always.

Usual songs, yes, but the different atmosphere (just an acoustic guitar, no microphones) definitely affected worship that night. In a good way.

See those whiteboards? Expected attendance was rather low so lyrics were (messily) written on the whiteboards. Surprisingly (in an awesome way), however, attendance was pretty great.

And next up was something that had never been done in fireBRANDS since the 7th of April, 2007:

Taking the Holy Communion.

Pastor Victor took this time to menitikberatkan the fact that while taking the communion, one must recognise the body of the Lord broken for us and the blood of Christ shed for us. And examine ourselves at the same time. (From 1 Cor 11:27-32.)

Passing the bread.

An attempt by the photographer to get an artsy-fartsy shot.

And so it was wayyyyyyyyyy more than just eating capati and drinking ribena.

Communion was followed by teaching by Pastor on Acts 1-2 (history/establishment of the church).

And a reveal of what Pastor spent his days at Bible college doing:

A timeline of the Book of Acts.

Teaching was helped along the way by four people with in-built loudspeakers:

Sharon Leow,

Justin Loh,

Alex Low,

and Ivy (that IS ivy).

Teaching basically summed up:
  1. What 'church' means. Comes from Greek: Quriakos, meaning 'of/from the Lord'.
  2. What 'church' was, back in 60 AD. Something along the lines of today's cell group: meeting up in homes. Except that the early church met up every single day.
  3. How the church was established. The Holy Spirit coming upon the early believers.
  4. What the believers did back then. Devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
  5. That church is all about God (FGA Centre is no longer a church when there're no believers meeting up inside, it's just a building) and we should emulate the attitude of the believers back then (look at 4.).

Pretty much random: Line of people from Pillar A to Pillar B.

Asher deserves special mention for being so responsive during teaching, likening the early church to cell group and the Pentecost to Pesta Menuai.

Teaching was succeeded by prayer in groups of 3-4 people, focusing on praying for one another, based on the teaching.

And, after everyone was prayed for:

A few guys were getting restless.

Service ended with My Redeemer Lives.

And a few shots of Ivy (as requested by Nehemiah Jebaraj) yang sungguh bersemangat sekali:

If you wanna know where Ivy is, just look to where Nehe's looking. And yes, sorry for the very, very blur photos.

End.
