Youth Dance Ministry's Official Opening

Report by: Joyce Lim
Photography by: how i know. who cares...?? =DDD

just so you know...dance is NOT just ballet. or hip-hop.
neither is it for girls in tight leotards (or men in tutus)
nor macho males break dancing out in the streets.

in fact, dance is an art form. an expression of beauty and grace.

=)

and so, being the awesome person that i am, i decided to grace the first YDM prac with my presence. the words joyce and dance almost never goes in a sentence together. that would just be...weird. yeah. =) but i still went anyway.

Sarah Wong, our awesome dance instructor, started off by asking us what comes to mind when we hear the word "Dance". We, meaning Alex (3 cheers for the first male to join!), Sharon and I, dutifully answered to the best of our abilities. of course, there isnt right or wrong answers so yeah.

she also mentioned the main objective of YDM:
"To Serve God Through Dance" simple, but to the point.

sarah continued by listing out the 6 areas of dance that we were gonna focus on:
1. posture
2. flexibility
3. balance
4. strength
5. stamina
6. expression

then...the stretching started (a required warm-up to ensure muscles dont cramp halfway and bones to stay in its proper shape). limbs were pulled one way or another until one became a living, moving and breathing jell-o. yeah.

after abt an hour of aches and pains in unknown places, we did a fun exercise. translated: we jumped around to the beat of a cute song (forgot the name hehe).

YES, we jumped.

sarah said we could jump any which way we wanted, whether it was a hop, skip or leap, as long as we kept to the timing. it was fun. really. =DDD

the conclusion to this short post: HURRY UR BUMS UP AND JOIN NOW!!!

DISCLAIMER: the descriptions in this post are mostly over-exaggerated for the sole purpose of entertaining the awesomely bored (and obviously whacked) reporter. dont be scared away k. it isn't really quite that horrible. =)
